ASPIRE attended The Rural Summit last month, which is the NC Rural Center’s annual conference in Raleigh. Each year, NC Rural Center thinks of it as our state’s rural homecoming – a unique opportunity for local leaders and state partners to come together in conversation and celebration.

ASPIRE paid a visit to Congresswoman Alma S. Adams while in DC earlier this month!
After winning a special election in November 2014, Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. was sworn in immediately as the 100th woman elected to the 113th Congress. Congresswoman Adams was elected to her fifth full term representing the 12th Congressional District of North Carolina on November 8, 2022. Representative Adams serves on the Committee on Education & the Workforce and the Committee on Agriculture. She holds several leadership roles; as Assistant Whip for the Democratic Caucus, Ranking Member of the Committee on Education & Labor’s Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, and co-chair of the Congressional Bipartisan HBCU Caucus, the Black Maternal Health Caucus, and the e-Learning Caucus. ASPIRE’s Manuel Campbell had a great connection meeting with Larken Egleston at the ASPIRE Headquarters in East Charlotte.
Larken Egleston is the Congressional District Director for U.S. Representative Jeff Jackson (NC-14). Egleston previously served two terms on the Charlotte City Council.

Johnson C. Smith University celebrates the annual Arch of Triumph Gala, celebrating the Inauguration of their 15th President, Dr. Valerie Kinloch. They also recognized individuals that have made an impact on their community and the University, including Gala Honoree, Harvey B. Gantt. The Annual Gala serves as the University’s marquee community event and benefits the JCSU Fund, empowering the University to provide innovative and challenging academic programs, as well as critical financial support for JCSU students.
